The Director of the International Relations Institute of Cameroon, IRIC, has been appointed Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Cameroon’s Diplomatic Mission to the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.

Dr. Salomon Eheth, Minister Plenipotentiary of exceptional class, was picked by presidential decree on Friday July 3, in replacement of Dr. Anatole Fabien Marie Nkou who had been in the job since May 2008.

The 59-year-old former IRIC student, who hails from the Mbam and Inoubou Division of the Centre Region, holds a PhD in International Relations, with a speciality in International Law.He also holds a diploma from the Academy of International Law of the Hague in the Netherlands.

He is an experienced diplomat who has manned several posts of responsibility within the Public Administration. Prof Eheth also worked for many years as Chargé de Mission at the Civil Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic, with the role being the last before his appointment to head IRIC.

The new envoy will have as mission to defend Cameroon’s interest at the UN Office in Geneva. He will, among many other assignments, have to represent the country especially during meetings of the UN Humans Rights Council where Cameroon is a member.

Prof Eheth succeeds 71-year-old Anatole Fabien Marie Nkou who has also served the country in various diplomatic capacities including roles at Cameroon’s diplomatic missions in Germany, the Vatican, the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, Ethiopia and the African Union, Spain, China, and the then Soviet Union.
