November elections into PCC should be put on hold.

The crisis of confidence rocking the PCC in the face of allegations of embezzlement and corruption in high quarters has pushed some influential elders to call for the deferment of elections.

In a letter addressed to the Board of Trustees, a noted trade unionist , Afu Stephens Kwah , calls for the resolution of the crises before the holding of November 2019 elections that would have seen incumbent, Rt Rev. Fonki Simon Forba, retain the Moderatorship, after using the old constitution to eliminate opponents like current Synod Clerk, Rev Foncham Babila. Following is the letter in its entirety:

Reference is made to this document in which Rev Anye has raised very serious allegations against the Moderator and Financial Secretary.

Reference to buying bonds in a foreign country (Gabon)

-siphoning close to a hundred million from the church's account to sponsor "an only child "

-The Moderator's involvement in a private school venture in Douala (bearing the name Presbyterian Comprehensive Secondary School Pcss Douala)amongst others.

This writer is worried because Teachers of the PEA have been going for many months without salaries even before the crises, yet such huge sums could be got from church coffers for such sponsors.

These are not allegations to be taken with a pinch of salt. Calling on the BOARD of TRUSTEES and SYNOD COMMITTEE to summon in extra ordinary sessions is serious.

Again,thinking of bringing in Prof Dorothy Njeuma, V.Rev Dr Nyansako ni Nku, and Rev Dr JN Dah to come on board and chair any such meeting to handle the crises is serious. These are celebrated individuals of Integrity who would have candid opinions and will do all in transparency and accountability.

PEATTU, the Presbyterian Education Authority Teachers Trade union, had earlier exposed some anomalies, and in the wake if these crises, in one of its resolutions even proposed a Committee to sit, examine the contentions and suggest solutions.

The seeming silence from the Chair of the BOT, and also from some members of the Synod Exco is disturbing. Compromised? Isn't it time for these bodies to convene and examine these allegations and revelations?

PEA had put on hold the further opening of schools, given that some even have been suspended. The case of Pcss Bonamoussadi coming up now is another matter of concern, that needs clarifications.

From the options that Rev Anye has made as the way forward, should they not be tenable,then a completely new constitution should be written, but while that of 1998 remains in place until the new one is proposed and adopted. The new constitution should consider present day dispensations, alongside new criteria for who ever, should be nominated and eventually elected into these offices of Moderator and Synod Clerk, and for the others on appointment. The issues should take a bottom to top approach. This done, we will no longer be having situations of imposed leadership.

The November elections should be put on hold and solutions to the prevailing crises given, before any elections are conducted. This time, the new team, whoever, will be working according to the new rules and regulations, and keeping to job descriptions.
