17 separatist fighters neutralised in “Ngoke-Bui operation”.

The Defence Forces led by Colonel Matiang Alain have continued with what they call the clean-up process of the North West to bring back peace to the crisis- hit region. From “Operation Bafut1, Bafut II, Widi Bali” a few months back, it was the turn of Ngoketunjia and Bui. The operation coded “Ngoke-*Bui” had over 500 soldiers who uncovered some separatist strongholds in these two divisions.

Led by Colonel Matiang Charles Alain, the Defence Forces destroyed Amba Camps in Baba I, Babungo and Wasin in Ngoketunjia Division. Meanwhile in Bui, the Defence Forces destroyed camps at Ibal, Ngemsiba, Jikijem, Elak, Djotin, Ndum, Tadu, Kumbo and some neighbouring areas.

The operation which lasted 7 days, saw 17 separatist fighters neutralized and many wounded. Meanwhile the Defence Forces lost one of theirs in the operation.

While presenting the items recovered from the destroyed camps, ranging from motor bikes, dane guns, cutlasses, solar panels, etc, General Nka Valere of the 5th Military Region and the Commander of the Gendarmerie, Brigadier General Ekongwesse Divine, congratulated Colonel Matiang and his boys for helping to free the population from the pain caused by the Amba fighters.

While responding to the 2^{nd D}eputy Mayor of Kumbo, Sandze Evance, the General reminded the population that “we are not out to massacre our children, but one thing is clear, we cannot sit and watch them kill their parents, brothers and sisters. It has been four years now and what are we getting out of that?” General Ekongwesse added that 60% of Cameroonians are youths and it is time to build and not destroy Cameroon. He reminded the population that they are out to protect them and not massacre them as some will think, while urging them to collaborate with the military to bring back peace. He reminded the population that the world is evolving and it is time for the boys to join the development process.

The Generals used the occasion to salute the efforts of other soldiers in the locality of Tabah, Andek and those in Widikum who in the same week carried out different operations against separatists. General Nka and Ekongwess reminded the population they are out to protect them and not massacre them as some would think, while urging them to collaborate with the military to bring back peace.

Like the Bafut, Widi-Bali Operations, a good number of locally fabricated ammunition like dane guns were recovered. It is worthy to note that parts of a military car belonging to the BIR that fell in a valley around Oku were also recovered. The rain and topography of the divisions made the operation a little difficult for them, Colonel Matiang noted.

The Generals called on the boys still in the bushes to drop their arms and embrace the opportunity given them by the Head of State which is the Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration Centre (DDR).

It was also an occasion for the two Generals to access a bridge built by the military in Meluf to link Oku to the Divisional headquarters, which has been blocked for close to two years by separatist fighters. The population of the two sub divisions can again trade through this road which is much shorter for them.
