Villagers flee to Nigeria as Yang in Donga-Mantung is razed!
Yang , a border village on the Cameroon-Nigeria borders in Nwa Subdivision was reportedly burnt down by the Cameroon military on Saturday 25/05/2019. The villagers reported that the military arrived at around 4 am in the morning while they were still asleep. When they were awakened by sounds of gun-shots they fled into the bushes under the cover of the darkness. At day break they only saw smoke rising from the deserted village. The soldiers who are said to have come in through Nwa in search of Amba boys camping in the village but could not find them vented their anger by torching the houses of the civilian population who had run into the bushes for safety. A young man whose father was identified as Usheni, was shot dead in the incident. The military later left through Lower Yang in the Mbaw plain shooting along the road as they went. Some of the villagers who sneaked into the village in the evening found many of their homes and businesses in ashes. Many of the villagers now without homes are said to have crossed the borders into Lip and Warkaka villages in neighbouring Nigeria as refugees. Those who braved it and remained in the village were curiously traumatized in the night breaking Sunday 26/5/2019, by gunshots suspectingly coming this time from the settlements of their Mbororo community members who reportedly broke into the remaining village houses and businesses by night looting their property including goats, sheep and fowls, and threatening the lives of the people. The village is in total panic.
