No: 519

Bafoussam City Council assists vulnerable persons.
The Bafoussam City Council, through Mayor Roger Tafam has donated some food items and COVID-19 preventive materials to persons living with disability, widows and social centers in Bafoussam. These items included bags of rice, cartons of laundry soap, table oil, hand sanitizers and face masks.

Handing over the food items and COVID-19 preventive materials to the beneficiaries in Bafoussam on, 23, July, 2020, Mayor Roger Tafam said his council thought it wise to assist the disabled and needy during this period that the devastating coronavirus pandemic has slowed down most economic activities and rendered many people helpless. He said it was for these reasons that the Bafoussam City Council, acting from its social action programme, decided to assist handicapped persons, widows and social centres in Mifi Division, for them to survive this period of lockdown as the result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mayor Tafam regretted that the coronavirus pandemic has had a detrimental impact on the population, adding that the food items and COVID-19 kits are aimed at assisting the recipients to temporarily overcome some of their difficulties caused by the pandemic.

For her part, the representative of the beneficiaries, Rev. Rose Ngamoon, proprietress of CERREJED center, a rehabilitation centre for orphaned children in Bafoussam, thanked the management of the Bafoussam City Council for their kind gesture, adding that it was a long-awaited opportunity, considering the amount of difficulties most of the beneficiaries have undergone as the result of the pandemic. She expressed the wish to see other organizations and associations come to the assistance of the needy and those living with disability.

Presiding over the ceremony, 3rd Assistant SDO for Mifi, Ngon Nkoro Essi Pierre Stephen, appreciated the initiative of the Bafoussam City Council to assist the needy and disabled persons at this rough period of the Coronavirus pandemic, and called on the beneficiaries to put the food items and COVID-19 materials at the benefit of the suffering placed under their care. Ngon Nkoro called on everyone to respect the barrier measures put in place by the Cameroon Government and the World Health Organisation (WHO).
