Some 2801 cadet officers of the 38th batch of the Combined Military Academy, EMIA, graduated from a four-week training on counter improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
Speaking at the end-of-course certificate award ceremony at the barracks of the Military civil engineering corps, ‘Genie Militaires’ in Douala, the chef de bataillon, Bekada Rene Didier, said the threat of IEDS is a reality in Cameroon since 2014 with the resurgence of Boko Haram and recently with the activities of separatist fighters in the North West and South West. Reason why the military high command thought it wise for aspiring officers to be acquainted with the danger and drilled on how to counter it. He said the training is henceforth an integral part of the training of military officers in EMIA. “The ceremony this year is of particular importance to me as an instructor and a father as my daughter is among the trainees”, Bekada said.
The major of the batch, Nga Belinga Jennifer Marie Claire, said she was happy with the training received as it enables them as future officers to know how to identify the threat and destroy it as well as opening other itineraries or raising clues. She said they were well treated by the instructor during the course and expressed gratitude for the training received.
It is worthy to mention that this is the third batch of cadet officers from the Combined Military Academy in Yaounde to receive training on improvised explosive devices at the CSIAP-GEN Centre in Douala.
This takes the count to 770, the number of officers who have received traing on improvised explosive devices at the centre. The training, Bekada said, is henceforth an integral part of the training of military officers. Out of the 280 who went in for the training, 275 succeeded, recording a success rate of 98.1 per cent. The ceremony was presided over by the Commander of the Civil Engineering Corps, Colonel Jackson Kamgaing and consisted of the proclamation of results and award of certificates and training manuals.
