International Relations: IRIC graduates diplomatic, protocol trainees.

Some 26 Diplomatic and Protocol Trainees from Cameroon, Chad and Congo on July 4, 2019 were awarded end-of-course certificates after a ten-month training on diplomacy at the International Relations Institute of Cameroon (IRIC). This was during a ceremony presided at by the Minister Delegate to the Ministry of External Relations in charge of Cooperation with the Islamic World, Adoum Gargoum, who equally launched the first edition of IRIC’s open day holding under the theme “entrepreneurship and youth employment: within the context of Cameroonian universities”. In attendance were members of government, heads of diplomatic missions and other officials.

Congratulating and encouraging the students in his keynote address, Minister Adoum Gargoum urged the laureates to be exemplary and disciplined in the different posts of responsibility they will be appointed to in their respective countries. While noting IRIC as an institution that has trained diplomats who have served at the international scene, he told the graduating trainees from other countries to encourage citizens of their countries to come and study in the educational establishment. Minister Gargoum equally lauded the open door initiative, stating it falls in line with the Head of State’s framework on professionalization.

For the Director of IRIC, Salomon Eheth, the institution trains students from various nationalities and offers research opportunities to the academia. The 26 diplomatic and protocol trainees who are the 47th batch of trainers is an indication the establishment is focused in its mission of training individuals from different nationalities who can best manage stakes at the national and international scene. Going by the Director, IRIC through its activities, strives to be a reference in the continent and seeks to contribute through its training to a constructive diaspora. While presenting the training, Salomon Eheth said the ten-month training course does not only consist in reviewing, but also refreshing the trainees’ knowledge on a wide range of international relations subjects. The training, he added, is both theoretical and practical with trainees being civil servants and other senior staff from national and international administrations who are already operational.

The 26 laureates comprise 11 women and 11 men amongst them nine Cameroonians, 11 Congolese and six Chadians.
