2022 Islamic Solidarity Games:  Cameroon declares candidature.

Cameroon has declared its intention to host the 2022 Islamic Solidarity Games. This was one of the resolutions arrived at the end of General Assembly of the Cameroon National Olympic and Sports Committee , CNOSC, that held at the Yaounde Conference Center recently.

In his speech, the President of CNOSC, Kalkaba Malboum, acknowledged the presence of the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Professor Narcisse Mouelle Kombi as well as board members of the CNOSC.

Mr. Kalkaba Malboum said the General Assembly is held in a particular context characterized by the coronavirus pandemic which has imposed a new living style.

The CNOSC President also mentioned the visit of the President of the IOC, Thomas Bach, last November 14 and 15, 2020 in Cameroon. During his two-day stay in the Cameroon, he dished out precious advice and held exchanges with state dignitaries to smoothen the relationship between the government and the Olympic Movement.

The health crisis worldwide caused by the coronavirus pandemic affected the sports calendar and as a consequence some promised competitions have been postponed. The Tokyo Olympic Games, for example slated from July 24 to August 9, 2020 was postponed to 2021.

At the national level, the Cameroon National Games also known as DIXIADES to take place in Bamenda was equally postponed to 2022. The funds set aside for the organisation of this tournament will be reinvested in the construction of sporting infrastructures and maintaining the existing ones in Bamenda.

As competitions are gradually restarting worldwide, Mr Kalkaba Malboum urged the members of the sporting movement to respect the measures put in place to kick out the killer virus. The restart of competitions will bring relief to athletes whose sole source of income is the stipend and prizes won in participating in tournaments.

Cameroon was equally recognized by the Olympic Movement as Madam Odette Engoulou was elected member of the IOC in 2019.
