At meeting of Intercultural Association of Chiefdoms in Cameroon: HRH Senator Lekunze Andreas Nembo III bags Cameroon Performance Award.
By GEORGE Etoh Anzah in Bamenda.
HRH Senator Lekunze Andreas Nembo III has been offered the prestigious Cameroon Performance Award CPA 2020.
The handover of the distinction took place on Saturday August 8th 2020 at his Yaounde residence. The colourful event simultaneously took place alongside the meeting of the Intercultural Association of Chiefdoms in Cameroon.
Speaking during the event, HRH Senator Lekunze III of the Bamumbu First Class Fondom in Lebialem in the South West Region, said he was truly happy to have been considered deserving of the Cameroon Performance Award. To him "it is an indication that everything we did in life was being observed by eyes that have the interest of the community or the nation at heart". Such an initiative, he said, would help "to push Cameroonians to do what they do better".
Laying emphasis on Performance and Hard work was certainly the best way to change the narrative on the way things were done in Cameroon, he said. He further thanked the Organising Committee of the Cameroon Performance Awards for taking out time to deliver his Award.
Addressing the Royal Highnesses from across the National Triangle, Fon Lekunze Andreas Nembo III said he was really honoured to have received his Award in the presence of Royalty from across the nation and encouraged other Traditional Rulers from across Cameroon to join the illustrious group to impact makers .
The Intercultural Association of Chiefdoms in Cameroon, he said, was truly a reflection of the whole nation. The presence of the Chiefs at his residence in Yaounde actually meant the whole nation was present. A people can only be truly identified through their culture. A group that assembles chiefs from across the nation, he said, was truly a group that assembled Cameroon as a people with a cultural identity.
According to Francis Ekongang Nzante, the Chairperson of the Organising Committee, the initiative was the brainchild of a group of Cameroonians both in Cameroon and in the Diaspora who are solely interested in bringing the notion of Hard work and Performance back into the mainstream of Cameroonian thought track.
The tendency to look for quick money using unconventional means, he said, was slowly gaining grounds. Challenged by this therefore are right handed and minded individuals through the CPA banner who seek to turn the hands of time and strike the pendulum to meritocracy.
"The culture of Hard work and the tendency to appreciate performance, good work and talent was gradually giving way to mediocrity" , he said, adding that "other concomitants such as corruption in almost every sector in the society have further worsened things.”
However, he hopes the CPA initiative would contribute in its own way towards the transformation of mindsets by showcasing and celebrating Hard Work and Performance especially at a time when a social, economic, political and religious awakening is much preached with a great call for patriotism by all stakeholders.
