DO stops MRC official from getting married!
In what was seen as political victimisation, a top official of the MRC political party, OLIVIER BIBOU NISSACK, was prohibited from tying the nuptial knot.
The decision was made by Mamadi Mahamat, DO of the Yaoundé 2 Subdivision, who in order to justify his actions, purported that His Majesty Biloa Effa, who had been chosen to preside over the wedding ceremony, wasn’t qualified.
The DO then qualified Olivier Bibou Nissack’s marriage as a “public ceremony” which had not been declared and visaed by him and therefore cannot be held.
In prelude to this act, the DO had on Thursday, reprimanded the manager of the hotel where the wedding was to be held and ordered him to annul the occasion.
This act from an administrative authority met with lots of indignation and anger from the Cameroonian opposition and civil society, who have termed it as an act of intimidation. Tempers flared up as the MRC party was yet to come to terms with this bizarre decision, seen as political victimisation.
Other observers saw in the action of the DO abuse of power or overzealousness. They thought President Biya should relieve his representative of his functions for dragging his name in mud.
But while all of this debate was raging on, Bibou Nissack found a solution to his dream of marriage. He got the disqualified celebrant to do the ceremony in his palace in Yaounde, far from the prying eyes of the security, but in the presence of family members and friends.
