Police force fortified with new officers.
One hundred and sixty-eight freshly trained officers have been injected into Cameroon’s police force. The 2018-2020 contingent of superintendents of police received their end-of-course certificates and epaulettes at the Yaounde Advanced Police College on Wednesday, August 12, 2020. Ninety-five other officers from the Republic of Congo, who formed the batch, are expected to complete their training in their country as a result of COVID-19.
Presiding over the ceremony, the Delegate General for National Security, Martin Mbarga Nguélé, challenged the police men and women to serve the nation with loyalty. For 23 months, the officers received theoretical and practical training from experts drawn from the police, the army, civil administration, the university and magistracy.
“They have received three types of training including general training, technical training and vocational training. They also received classroom lessons and did practical training in police units”, said Thomas Assiga, Commander of the Yaounde Advanced Public School.
Superintendents of police are usually entrusted with the powers and responsibility of maintaining law and order, as well as ensuring by constant supervision, that the prevention, investigation and detection of crime in his district are properly and efficiently dealt with by the Police force under his command. The graduating officers are well aware of these challenging tasks.
“I feel like an accomplished man. I owe it to God and to the police hierarchy. We were received here as in military and police training centers. We have acquired a lot of knowledge on the three criteria that make up a police officer: the spirit of the police officer, the personality and the body,” said Maliki Saidi, major of the 2018-2020 batches.
“The Training was exacting both physically and mentally. It wasn’t easy but I’m proud because we started together and we all graduated. I am proud to be major. I deserve it because the results spoke for themselves,” another graduating officer, Fadi said.
The ceremony took place in compliance with COVID-19 social distancing measures.
