Konye denizens brainstorm on industrialization project

Some elite, civil society actors and traditional rulers from Konye and Mbonge have taken part in a meeting to set up a platform for the alleviation of poverty in the community.

They met in Kumba recently to brainstorm on how to make a career-oriented industrialization project visible, under the guise of Cameroon Industrialization Foundation with acronym CIFCAM.

During the meeting, the Board chair of CIFCAM, Dr Barrister Musima Georges Lobe, (who also doubles as mayor of the Konye Council) and initiator of the project said the project shall be run in the form of an institution dubbed Cameroon Industrialization Foundation Institute of Vocation Training, (CIFIVOT). This project, he noted, is designed like the Opportunity Industrialization Center (OIC) in Buea. Barrister Musima pointed out that the community-oriented project is aimed at transforming the community with skills to face the job markets. The youths, women, underprivileged, internally displaced persons, and others shall be trained in the various fields in the institution in the likes of hotel management and catering, information and communication technology, mechanical engineering, secretariat duties, agriculture, ETC.

The Board Chair said the project is a philanthropic welfare career program created to solve the challenges of the community ahead of time. This project, he added, is the outcome provoked by the Anglophone crisis that has ravaged the minds of the youths to plunge themselves in unscrupulous activities caused by idleness. “Do we wait until the crisis is over? What would happen to our youths, out women, the underprivileged and others?” he questioned and lamented.

For his part, Mandi Dickson Dikong, retired Inspector of Basic Education, Konye, said the idea is a cherished one and should sell to all. He said in their days Ombe used to be an institution where the youths were transformed with industrialized ideas to transform the community. But today, he regretted, the institution has gone comatose. He said there is need for total transformation of the youths of Konye through the program. An enlarged conclave to decide on the shareholding rights of the project has been slated for September 5, 2020.
