Recruitment of Pupil Magistrates, Student Court Registrars of English Expression: Minister presents balance sheet.
The President of the Adhoc committee in charge of the special recruitment of pupil Magistrates and Court Registrars of English expression for courts of Appeal in the North West and South West regions says 6,884 candidates effectively took part in the four-year exercise that has come to an end.
The Minister of Public Service and Administrative Reform, Joseph LE, was speaking in Buea recently, during a press briefing to make an assessment of the exercise that started in 2017 examinations.
Going by the minister, the said operation had been opened at the Magistracy and Court Registry Division of the National School of Administration and Magistracy, ENAM, for the recruitment of 120 student Court Registrars and 200 Pupil Magistrates.
In 2017, a total of 3021 candidates took part in the competitive examination - 722 Pupil Magistrates and 2,249 Student Court Registrars.
In 2018, 826 candidates for Student Court Registrars and 507 students for Pupil Magistrates took part in the two examinations.
Meanwhile, for the 2019 financial year a total of 1,108 candidates actually took part in the written part of the exams.
The special recruitment of the 200 Pupil Magistrates at the rate of 50 per session and 120 Student Court Registrars that is, 30 each year as authorized by the President of the Republic into the National School of Administration and Magistracy, ENAM, is a response to some of the concerns raised by Common Law Lawyers in 2016.
The event was also an opportunity for Minister Joseph LE and his entourage, to pay a visit to the 2018 batch made up of 30 Student Court Registrars and 50 Pupil Magistrates currently on internship in different courts in Buea.
Minister Joseph LE told them to be patriotic, diligent and patient in their quest for knowledge.
Worried about the socio-political crisis in the two English speaking regions of the country and how favourable their working conditions would be upon completion of their studies, Minister Joseph LE, while encouraging the students, emphasized that public service must continue in all areas of the two regions given the security put in their favour.
Accompanied by the Director General of ENAM, Bertrand Pierre Soumbou Angoula, the training of the students has not been without challenges, but the administration is doing all it can to give the students the best training they deserve.
