Hackaton Cameroon vs Covid-19: Winners revealed.
The winners of the 2020 Hackaton vs Covid-19 competition for innovation in the fight against the pandemic have been unveiled.
During a prize-award ceremony in Yaoundé, the five winners presented their projects to the public which will reinforce the fight against the Covid-19. The first prize of the competition went to Arthur Zang with his project Oxynnet which seeks to produce 95 percent of medical oxygen mini stations capable of feeding up to nine Covid-19 patients simultaneously with an empowerment and remote control system.
The project bagged home the sum of US$20 000 (about FCFA 11 million).
On the other hand, a group of youth designed a telemedicine application called Ouicare which enables patients to consult with a doctor from a distance and also provides a forum for patients and users to equally ask questions related to the Covid-19 while receiving instant answers. The originality of the project convinced the jury to choose them as one of the winners as they bagged home the sum of USD 10,000 (about FCFA 5. 5 million).
Another group of youth who went home with a similar amount, presented the project titled Orion which is a metallic stand that seeks to encourage social distancing in markets and helps limit the spread of the pandemic.
Finally, the fifth winner went home with the sum of USD 80,000(about FCFA 4,400,000) after presenting a project titled Tchossa which is a web and mobile application that provides information on the Covid-19 and helps to fight against fake news and misinformation around the pandemic.
The five winners were selected from a pool of over 600 projects submitted from youth all over the ten regions of Cameroon. Presiding over the award ceremony, the Minister of Youth and Civic Education, Mounouna Foutsou, called on the laureates to take their projects to the next step by creating a visible impact in their communities. He called on them to share their knowledge with other youth as well as capitalize on the investment made so that other youth can equally be trusted.
For his part, the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme, Jean Luc Stallon, hoped it will not just be one shot event for the youth but a life-change experience for them and their communities. He cast an eye into the future, proposing the competition should look at ways of integrating institutional innovation.
