The 2020-2021 football season in Cameroon will kick-off on Saturday September 26, 2020, kick442.com can report.
According to a note from the Secretary General of the Cameroon football federation, Benjamin Didier Banlock, the Elite one championship will kick off on Saturday September 26, while the Elite two championship will follow in a fortnight (On Saturday October 10, 2020).
Footballers playing in the Cameroon league have been out of action for six months now, since the 2019-2020 season was halted in March, and later declared ended on May 12, 2020.
The Cameroon football federation through its Technical Transitional Committee that is running the professional football league has urged the various club officials to hasten up with the submission of the necessary documents and applications for licenses.
The first period for clubs to register players into the TMS system of FIFA has been opened since August 01, and will run till October 23, 2020, while the second period to register players will commence on January 02, 2021 and will end on January 31, 2021.
The days ahead promise to be hectic at the Technical Transitional Committee of FECAFOOT, with the fixtures expected to be out anytime soon.
The president of the Technical Transitional Committee, Aboubakar Alim Konaté, is quoted to have told a Douala-based Radio station that the government of Cameroon has promised to accompany them to start the championship and is working on their plea to temporarily suspend one of the measures put in place to combat the spread of the Coronavirus, that which prevents the gathering of more than 50 persons, which will allow them to have at least 200 persons per game.
He also revealed that the medical committee of FECAFOOT is currently working on measures to ensure the safety of the actors.
Concerning the stadia to host league games, Aboubakar Alim Konaté told Suelaba FM that “we have already made a list of stadia where matches will be played. For a town like Douala we are envisaging to organize some top matches at the Bepanda Stadium and some matches at Japoma, so as to assure that everything is functioning well in those stadia ahead of continental competitions”.
Some Elite one and two teams are gradually returning to training, barely a month to date scheduled for kick-off of the championship, while the major activities at the moment within most teams, is the transfer activities, with entry and exit of players.
When the league kicks off, PWD of Bamenda will be defending the crown they won last season, while Elite two clubs will battle to get a place in the elite One championship.
