“I’ll get equipment to produce massively”

Malice Selamo Jumla Jinka, Laureate

Can you tell us what your project is?

K’Boss Pack is a biodegradable friendly packaging, made from the recycling of cocoa pods. I was inspired by the historic use of the calabash by the Bantus. But the calabash is very fragile. That’s why I made my K’Boss Pack which is resistant to shock.

What difference is this going to bring?

The problem I am trying to solve is the excessive use of non-biodegradable packaging. They pollute our environment, keeping places very dirty and blocking water outlets. The solution I am bringing is the use of natural packaging like this my K’Boss Pack. K’Boss Pack is natural. When dumped in water, it becomes food for fishes and other animals living in water and on land, it enriches the soil. This innovation is going to help reduce the losses in national currencies. According to my findings, the government spent more than FCFA five billion in the importation of non-biodegradable packaging in 2013. Whereas, cocoa farmers throw away cocoa pods that we can use to make our own packaging. Using my K’Boss Pack gives an added value to ‘made in Cameroon’ products. It also ensures food safety and sovereignty as the packaging is not permeable.

Having emerged best in your category, what’s your impression and what are you going to use the money for?

Very happy. To have been among the over 100 initially preselected and then 50 further chosen, down to the final list of 20, and being the best in the “Terroir Category,” is so fulfilling. I’ll get all the equipment that will help me produce massively and fast enough. I will be able to satisfy my target population. This is because with the dryers I will buy, I will be able to produce more than 10,000 K’Boss Packs daily. I want to give my appreciation to His Excellency President Paul Biya, for this opportunity he has given the youth. I also want to thank the government for what they are doing to encourage the young people to engage in entrepreneurship.
