Meme teachers bid farewell to retired Divisional Delegate

Seasoned educationists, retired teachers and teachers of the secondary education sector of the academia have bid farewell to late Divisional Delegate for Secondary Education, Meme.

Kwo Akwo John Eyoh who died on July 4 2020 after a brief illness in Kumba received glorifying tributes from his corps and kinsmen in his native Kokobuma village in Meme Division on Saturday August 22, 2020.

At the Divisional Delegation of Secondary education where his body lay in a white casket, the Divisional Delegate for Secondary Education, Aghim Abunaw Obase who sat in lieu of the Minister for Secondary Education said he was gripped with immeasurable grief, fear and astonishment when news of the death of his predecessor reached him. He said the death of Akwo John Eyoh was a shattering blow to the education family because even in retirement he served as a consultant and moving library to school administrators.

In his 38-year career which spanned from 1980 to 2017, he served the state in diversified capacities and administrative jurisdictions. From East, Center-South and South West, he was a moving phonologist. He was a linguist, Abunaw quipped, who served as a lecturer in C.E.S d'Ambam and Lycée d'Ebolowa, then Government High School,G.H.S Nyasoso, Cameroon College of Arts and Science, CC.A.S Kumba and Government Secondary School, G.S.S Bamusso. He was later appointed at C.C.A.S Kumba, then Government Technical Training College, G.T.T.C,Kumba as vice principal in 1997,an office he occupied until 2000.

By dint of his hard work, diligence and assiduity, he was appointed Divisional Delegate of National Education for Meme from 2000-2004. From 2004-2005, he occupied the office of Divisional Delegate of National Education, Kupe-Muanenguba, then Divisional Delegate for Secondary Education from 2005-2014 in Kupe-Muanenguba. In 2014 he returned to Kumba where he served as Divisional Delegate of Secondary Education from 2014,until 2nd November 2020 when he went on a well-desired retirement.

With these distinctive qualities, he was seen as a rare pedagogue par excellence of crystalline quality and unmistaken brilliance. He was jovial, friendly and down- to- earth, doing everything human to put smiles on the faces of all, irrespective of gender, grade and ethnicity, Abunaw added.

In a gesture to embrace the female staff under his control, he referred to the young as "international Cherie" and the advanced in age as "expired chemicals". This, he did, to ease administration and create cordial relation in the teaching corps, the D.D narrated.

For David Otto Orock, President of Meme College of Principals and Principal of E.N.I.E.T, Kumba, they have lost a friend and adviser both at home and at work.

For Ekoko Mukete,Paramount Ruler of the Bafaws, he was a hard working man who devoted himself at work. He said he served endlessly as President of the Bafaw Language Development Association,B.A.F.L.A.D.E.A that has helped to come out with Bafaw Alphabet which aided in the translation of the Bible to Lifaw,the native tongue of the Bafaws.

The late Akwo Eyoh was born in 1957 in Kokobuma. He is a title holder with the title Kwo. He was a holder of D.I.P.E.S certificate in History.
