The evil behind social stratification

The evil behind social stratification

By Ekema Emmanuel Likine, Political Sociologist.

Social stratification means the categorization of people within a given society into groups. This is often based on people's economic power, wealth, occupations, level of education, gender, social status, derived power and tribal origins. History holds that social stratification has been and it still one of the major causes of social problems plaguing humanity. God is the only one who decides who He blesses more than others but the most important thing to note here is that it is more in His plan that each and everyone of us lives a decent life. Sadly, when some people become rich, they immediately separate themselves from those they consider not to be of their social class. This unfortunate attitude has given birth to separate residential quarters for rich and poor people.

It is an open secret that residential quarters for rich people have social facilities such as light, clean water, well tarred streets while slums and ghettos with poor social infrastructures are often reserved for poor people. Societal classification has also led to realities such as expensive and well-equipped schools for rich children and less equipped ones for poor children, nutritive food for rich people and low-rated food for poor people. Shopping malls for rich people and quarter buying for poor people and luxury cars for rich people while poor people scramble on dilapidated public transport facilities. The fundamental question I wish to ask here is that are those in authority more human beings than others? Does it take anything from you, if you help others to live a decent life like you do ?

For the fact that we shall all die one day, being wicked to others on the basis that they should not live well as you do is absolutely myopic. It is not written anywhere in the bible that if you achieve more than others, you will live for ever. Let those in authority know that their biggest mission is to make life better for those under their care. Nothing less nothing more. Do good at all times because good will bring you good and evil will only reward you evil.. Think
