Presidential ICT Innovation Prize: Norvis Nzomatiah grabs fcfa 15 million.

Norvis Nzomatiah Tetsop has emerged best in the second edition of the National ICT innovation project competition. The start-upper’s project to develop 3D printers recycles and makes use of electronic waste. His project, which has been considered environmentally-friendly was awarded up to FCFA 15 million.

The Presidential prize was handed out last Friday, August 28, 2020 at a ceremony presided over by the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Minette Libom Li Likeng.

Appreciating the award, the winner said the FCFA 15, 000, 000 prize money will help him upgrade and consequently impact many more people. “This money will help me to develop the project. As an engineering student, we are focusing on developing printers that can help schools because they lack some materials like 3D printers. I thought it wise that we can use the materials available to kick-start the project before we could eventually produce in bulk and get into the market,” Norvis Nzomatiah Tetsop stated.

Another project, dubbed Translate, which helps translate from either English or French to Cameroonian Languages, received the approval of the jury. The project bearer, Innocent Swi Che, came second and bagged home some FCFA 10,000,000. His idea was also highly saluted for the role it is expected to play at a time when bilingualism is on the spotlight. With a FCFA 6,000,000 budget, the project bearer says the FCFA 10, 000,000 won, would make things smoother. “The money will help us so much. Our initial project was FCFA six million but we have received a prize, worth FCFA ten million. That means that we can fully implement our start up. We can easily collect data with this revenue and build a tool kit that can be used to translate. It will not work exclusively on the web, it will also be available for offline use,” the bearer indicated.

The event crowned weeklong activities marking the second edition of the ICT Innovation Week. During this period, 15 candidates shortlisted from hundreds who postulated went through an intensive course, facilitated by highly recognized experts from Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications. They gained skills on the development of business models, strategic marketing and creative out-of-the-box thinking. These top 15 start-uppers each received awards, commensurate to their positions.
