Prof. Aletum Michael Tabuwe passes on
Prof Aletum Michael Tabuwe, Professor emeritus of Sociology at the University of Yaounde II, Soa, is no more. He died last Monday 7 September at a private clinic in Washington DC, US after a brief illness. He was aged 86.
According to a son of the deceased, Pa Aletum, as he was fondly called, died due to negligence. He is quoted as saying that the US medical administration is too preoccupied with COVID-19 cases to the point of ignoring other ailments. It was due to this clinical discrimination, he said, that the eminent sociological lecturer died.
Prof. Aletum’s death leaves a vacuum in the political science department of Yaounde II, the faculty of laws and political sciences of the same university where he was one of the pioneers. For close to four decades, he was father of all the lecturers currently teaching at the University of Yaounde II and in the Cameroonian and African administrations. His manual « Rural Sociology » was a bedside document for all learners and researchers of his discipline.
