President dies after barely 41/2 months in office!
Chamber of Agriculture, Fisheries, Livestock and Forestry (CAPEF) is no more. He died yesterday in a Tunis hospital of an illness. He was 59. Matta had occupied the post of CAPEF President for only four and a half months.
The former MP and Senator from Boumba and Ngoko Division in the East Region was appointed to that post on 8 May 2020 by presidential decree, taking over from the late Janvier Mongui Sossomba who himself died on the job two years ago.
Matta therefore had no time to put his experience at the service of CAPEF. He had been challenged on taking office to ensure the Chamber’s missions of consultation, economic promotion and professional training as well as modernisation of the consular body are effectively carried out.
Concerning the consultative mission, the CAPEF President was called upon to represent and defend the interests of members before the government, national and international institutions.
At the economic level, he was supposed to with his team organize promotional campaigns intended to increase sale of agricultural, fishery, forestry and wildlife products on the local and foreign markets.
Born on 13 February 1961 in Ngotto II Yokadouma, Joseph Roland Matta attended l’Institut de formation aux métiers de tourisme et de l’hôtellerie (INFATH) de Gouvieux , France. At the end of his training, he worked for several years at the helm of hotel and tourism institutions. He was management controller of Sofitel-Roissy in France, then auditor of the then Sofitel Mont-Febe in Yaoundé. He was also GM of Novotel Mansa de Bertoua.
The late Matta was Secretary of State at the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife from 7 September 2007 till 2011. He then became Senator in 2013 but was dropped at the end of his first term in office. He then bounced back last May at the helm of CAPEF but was not lucky to stay on the new job.
