Maroua: SDO threatens to arrest, punish protesters
The ban on Maurice Kamto’s 22 September protest to force President Biya’s departure was not limited to three regions, as initially declared.
President Biya’s representatives in other regions and divisions were soon consumed by the ban virus. Such was the case with the Senior Divisional Officer of Diamaré, Maroua in the Far North region of Cameroon.
In a release on Monday, Ekoa Mbarga Jean Marc said anyone who dared to answer to the call for protest, using any mode of transport or even marching, “… Will face the strictness of the law by a systematic arrest and impoundment of the means of transport used…”.
The administrator added that Diamaré Division has had its fair share of economic challenges imposed by the Boko Haram insurgency, and is thus “… In need of serenity to relaunch its economic development with the support of its sons and daughters.”
