Panic as Cholera outbreak hits Kribi prison
The first case of cholera has been confirmed at the Kribi Main Prison in the South region.
Confirmed on Sunday, the victim is a 31-year-old from the Mboamanga neighbourhood.
Reports say he was admitted overnight under the supervision of Doctors Without Borders as he was extremely tired and had severe diarrhea and vomiting.
Tests carried out by health personnel would later confirm the presence of cholera.
The detention facility has since witnessed a scare especially among inmates following news that some have shown similar symptoms.
The outbreak at the Kribi prison makes it a third section of the town to record the disease. This comes after similar reports in Londji village and the Massaka district.
Over the weekend, a case of Cholera was confirmed in Muea-Buea, the first in the South West region.
Health authorities have called on health personnel and the general public to maintain vigilance and sanitary measures as much as they can.
