4 journalists arrested during MRC protests!
Two journalists and two cameramen were arrested in Douala and Yaounde last Tuesday while covering the nationwide protest organised by the Cameroon Renaissance Movement party, MRC, and allies to demand the departure of President Paul Biya.
One of them identified as Lindovi Njio from la Nouvelle Expression daily newspaper based in Douala, Littoral region of Cameroon was arrested when he was about to cover the protest at Prof Maurice Kamto’s residence at the Santa Barbara neighbourhood in Yaounde.
A journalist present on the field is quoted as saying Lindovi Njio got to close the police surrounding the entrances leading to Kamto residence, facilitating his arrest. Lindovi Njio crossed a first security fence, then tried to get through the second one which is nearly 100 meters from Kamto’s home and as such got too close to the police, reason why he was picked up.
The colleague added that though Lindovi presented documents attesting he is a journalist who only wanted to cover the event, he was still taken away for questioning.
Apart from Lindovi, Rodrigue Ngassi was also arrested inYaounde. Two others, Jarvis Tah, Christian Tebong are reported to have been arrested in Douala.
Reacting to their arrest, the Cameroon Association of English-speaking Journalists, CAMASEJ took to its Twitter page to ask for the immediate release of one of these journalists, Jarvis Tah.
For its part, the Committee to Protect Journalists, CPJ, said it is investigating the latest arrests, and urged the government to allow journalist do their job.

Speaking after his release, Lindovi Njio who was brutalised by the forces, reminded the military that he was just doing his job like them and so did not merit the brutality inflicted on him.
