North West: Schools receive didactic material for new academic year.

Despite the security challenges and the uncertain atmosphere prevailing in the North West and South West Regions as a result on the on-going crisis, authorities of the Ndu Council in Donga/Mantung Division of the North West Region, are leaving no stone unturned to ensure a hitch-free 2020/2021 school year.

According to the new mayor of the Ndu Council, Alhaji Abdou Kanfon Borno, he had to begin preparations ahead of time by ensuring that Basic Education authorities within his municipality get the necessary didactic materials to enable them begin the new school year with little or no problems. Commonly known as “Minimum Packages” which is government’s support to basic education institutions through councils which are decentralized structures, a total of 64 schools benefitted from government’s largesse. The distribution exercise which took place recently in the Council premises, began with a planning meeting chaired by the Mayor and assisted by the Basic Education Inspector for Ndu Sub-Division in the presence of head teachers of primary schools within the municipality.

Determination to study

Ndu Mayor Alhadji Abdou Kanfon Borno called on the head teachers to be peace ambassadors. He cautioned the basic education authorities to desist from being vectors of hatred. He assured teachers of the basic education sector of his council’s determination to ensure that schools kick off as planned by the Ministry of Basic Education, assuring teachers and pupils of council support. The Mayor who had served as the National Secretary of the Islamic Education Agency said education was the only lasting gift a conscious parent can bequeath to his or her child. The teachers, for their part, expressed satisfaction with the council’s gesture and assured the mayor of their determination to go back to the classroom. The occasion also witnessed a surprise visit by the Member of Parliament for Ndu Constituency Hon. Naomi Mbongnyor who was on a meet-th-people tour of the area. Suffice to note that the Ndu Council which hitherto was under the Social Democratic Front, SDF, fell into the hands of the Cameroon Peoples Democratic Party, CPDM, during the twin polls of February 9, 2020.
