Seasoned Private school petitions Basic Education Minister on their fate

A seasoned private school teacher has petitioned the minister of basic education (MINEDUB) on their plight.

In an open letter, Ekamba Ntui decries the absence of a statute for teachers of the private sector who represent 75 percent of the teaching corps.

He called on Laurent Serge Etoundi Ngoa,the MINEDUB boss who has so far been doing an excellent job to act in order to reverse the trend of private teachers branching off into business for lack of motivation. Following is the letter in its entirety:

Sir, schools have just resumed and the cry of the need of teachers is on the rise.

Statistics have shown that, many of our colleagues have left the field because of the treatment some unscrupulous founders and proprietors gave their teachers during this period of covid+19.

Sir, about 75% of teachers are in the private sector, yet they have no statutes to guide their recruitment.

These teachers render the services of teaching more than their colleagues of the state-owned institutions.

The shortage of teachers is due to the lack of security of the teachers from their so called founders.

No contract is signed. Even when signed it favours the founders because of the desperate situation of the teachers.

The government has no instrument to regulate the private teachers’ sector.

Mr Minister, you are of the field. Teachers lose more than 10000 calories daily while teaching and end up with a stipend of 35000- 50000fra month.

Sir, Cameroon has passed that era. Kindly call to order the opportunist founders who are not educated, but pretend to promote education in our Land of promise the Lord has given us.

SEDUC is in compliance with the proprietors and proprietresses to maltreating their teachers.

We are men and women of the Noble profession and need to look like Noble men and women.

Sir, we have seen the changes you have made in the ministry, more needs to be done. Thank you.

Many teachers have diverted into businesses and are doing well. This is now discouraging their peers to go into the classrooms. I am a seasoned teacher for decades now and have gone through four changes of the curriculum but this one coded New curriculum is the worst in its implementation. I am crying for teachers of tomorrow and Learners for something needs to be done to adjust this mess implemented last two years before you took the baton of command.

You still hold the chalk and I am so proud of you. Keep up and see what God holds for you.
