Start-ups get technological lift
Start-ups get technological lift (No photo)
Present and future start-ups now have a centre where their technological needs can be met. An incubation centre was opened last week at the nation’s political capital, with a promise to create more others in the different Regions.
The technological innovation, which has been dubbed, INNOTECH Lab, will develop and adapt technology to meet local realities. It has been mandated to think global and act locally. The scheme is led by Professor Sama Mbang and other Cameroonians based in Germany. “It is equipped with an ultramodern infrastructure that will be used to develop technologies and adapt them to our context. It will also design and deploy academic and vocational training programmes which allow users to study while working”, the team leader hinted.
Carine Ndi, a computer engineering student at the University of Buea, looks to benefit from the package that will be offered by the newly created incubation centre. “It promises to be a very nice resource centre. I hope to be able to get some my ideas processed with help from them,” Carine Ndi reacted.
The centre was opened by the Minister of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, Handicraft and Social Economy, Achille Bassileken III, in a ceremony which was also attended by the Minister of Employment and Vocational Training, as well as that of Labour and Social Security. Recall, most of the prototypes presented at various forums in the country have to do with technological innovation. The winner of the 2020 ICT Innovation competition, for instance says his project idea, which principally depends on technology, still needs to be fully developed. Such a centre seems a perfect fit for the next step.
Some specialists in the domain have said the incubator is likely to nurture the establishment of many more start-ups, which actually make up a greater share of the nation’s economic fabric.
