Experts seek ways to improve project performance.
Members of the committee to follow up on the improvement of government projects have been urged to spare no efforts at ensuring that projects conceived and pursued by government effectively get to maturity. They were put to the task by the Minister of the Economy, Planning and regional development, Alamine Ousmane Mey, on Tuesday October 27, 2020, during their first working session. The panel, in which Secretaries General and Directors General of Ministries with a stake in the execution of public investment projects partook, served as a platform to assess the new project maturation process and to evaluate the level of preparation of certain major public investments. The aim was to ensure the proper maturation of the said investment projects with a view to guaranteeing their proper execution and improving the quality of public investment expenditure.
The meeting held in line with the provisions of a June 21, 2018 presidential decree setting the rules governing the maturation process of public investment projects in the country.
Presiding over the committee meeting, Minister Alamine Ousmane Mey said the working sessions needed to verify that all characteristics familiar to a complete project are in place before any project carried out within the framework of the public investment project is received. He indicated that the intention is to make sure all projects create the expected impact on the targeted communities. Just last week, it would be recalled, the Minister of Public Contracts released a list of up to 80 contractors sanctioned for abandoning state projects. The particular projects were cancelled and the firms suspended from participating in the execution of any state project for the next two years.
It is in the same spirit that the committee, which met in its first session, began exploring the different options expected to scale up the quality of projects provided by the government.
