At Brazzaville colloquium: PM Dion Ngute urges support for Africa’s youth.

Prime Minister Dr Joseph Dion Ngute has called on African countries to harness and support their youth which he described as the driving force of what will be the continent’s new economy.

The Cameroonian Head of Government was one of about 15 speakers at the opening of an international colloquium that took place in the Congolese capital, Brazzaville, on October 27.

The colloquium which rounded up October 29 is took place under the theme “De Gaulle and Brazzaville: A shared memory between France, Congo and Africa.” It took place at a time when many Francophone African countries are celebrating 60 years of their independence. The colloquium was also meant to celebrate Africa’s participation in the liberation of France from Nazi aggression during the Second World War and De Gaulle’s appeal for France not to yield to Nazi occupation.

All the speakers during the colloquium talked about a variety of issues bordering on France-Africa relations including the need for a new relationship between the two parties which should be premised on the virtues of mutual solidarity and respect. One of the common issues raised by them was the increasing wave of terrorism across parts of the continent and how a solid and united front can be mounted in order to surmount the challenge.

Personalities who spoke at t he opening of the conference include the Congolese President and host of the event, President Denis Sassou-Nguesso; Chadian President Idriss Deby; Faustin Archange Touadera of the Central African Republic; Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo; the Prime Minister of Gabon, Rose Christiane Ossouka Raponda; the French Minister for Europe and Foreign affairs, Jean-Yves Le Drian; the Secretary General of La Francophonie, Louise Mushikiwabo; the President of the Charles de Gaulle Foundation, Hervé Gaymard, and the Mayor of Brazzaville, Dieudonné Bantsimba.

Among the issues raised by them was the desire to see more concerted efforts between Africa and France as well as multilateral partners for the eradication of poverty and the current Coronavirus pandemic which is putting a strain on the economies of most countries on the continent.

PM Dion Ngute returned to the country Friday after deliberations at the colloquium.
