Youth empowerment: Miss and Master Startup launched.

Youth unemployment has been a bone of contention in Cameroon and the government has been battling with the phenomenon to ensure that youths are gainfully employed. But then the government cannot do it alone reason why some meaningful partners have been brought to the scene to ensure that more youths gain employment. One of such partners is the Cameroon Assistance Jeunes also known as CAMAS-Youth which is out to promote self-employment amongst youths. The association has as objective to finance projects from youths all over the country. Against this backdrop, CAMAS-Youth has launched a project known as “Miss and Master Startup Cameroon”.

While launching the project in Douala on July 04th, the Founder of CAMAS-Youth, Jones Yarro, explained that they are out to train youths to be self-employed. To him the project will not only offer cash prizes to winners but will go a long way to train them to become masters in their field. He said this would be done by linking winners with bigger companies in their domain from where they would gain more experiences and improve on their services and products. He called on young Cameroonians between the ages of 18 to 40 years to reregister for the competition. According to the project coordinator of Miss and Master Startup Cameroon, AnokoYann, youths with any project idea can apply. To him the idea must be realistic, Cameroonian and original. He said they are out to promote local initiative and “made in Cameroon”. He made it clear that since it is the first edition there are no specific domains as youth in the agricultural, animal rearing, fisheries business, electronics, documentation, sewing, textile and what have you can apply. The winner of the 1st prize will take home CFA 3.000.000. 2nd prize will take home CFA 1000000, while winners of the 3rd prize which will have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Dauphine will each take home the sum of CFA 250.000. Interested youths can register online with CFA 100 through camas-community.com or register through the CAMAS – Youth offices in the Littoral, Centre, South West, West and North Regions.
