UNDP in Cameroon: New resident representative presents roadmap.
The new Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Jean-Luc Stalon, has had a meeting with the Minister of Finance, Louis Paul Motaze, during which he presented the development agency’s roadmap for the country. Jean-Luc Stalon was received in audience on July 2, 2019 in Yaounde.
After the audience, the UNDP Resident Representative in Cameroon told reporters that they had a very engaging exchange. “We mainly discussed two issues – the support that the government has requested the UNDP on the formulation of the national development plan for 2020 – 2030. It has a lot of components, so it was necessary to discuss with the Minister and get his guidance. The second aspect we discussed is how UNDP can support the Government is stabilization, particularly in the Far North Region _which has been affected by Boko – Haram,” Stalon disclosed.
The UNDP Resident Representative said the agency would work towards stabilizing areas in the Far North Region which have been cleared by the military. He noted that they would focus stabilization on three main pillars. He cited specifically support to local populations to access basic services like water and electricity. “We also have to work towards the restoration of state authority so as to make sure that the police, gendarmerie, justice systems and others work and are provided to the population,” Stalon said, adding that UNDP will support the local economy to get people back to their feet.
