SDF Calls for open debate in plenary to solve Anglophone crisis.

SDF Calls for open debate in plenary to solve Anglophone crisis.

The Social Democratic Front, SDF, has called for an open debate in plenary in order to identify the root causes of the Anglophone crisis in view of seeking a definitive and lasting solution.

This was during a conclave organised by members of the SDF parliamentary group in Yaounde on July 9, 2019. Going by the resolution drafted by Hon Fusi Naamukong Wilfred alongside SDF parliamentary group leader, in accordance with the provision of section 57 et seq of the Standing Orders of National Assembly, the party advocates a peace, truth and reconciliation commission to effect a mediated settlement that would involve those inside and outside the country.

Despite repeated calls for meaningful dialogue by the Cameroonian people and their wailing to see lasting peace return to the North West and South West regions, the situation keeps deteriorating. The party frowned at the daily killings of civilians and defense forces in the North West and South West regions as a result of the crisis.

While stressing on the European Parliament resolution on human rights abuses, the party condemned the grave human rights violations and the crimes against humanity perpetrated on the peoples of the North West and South West regions during the ongoing crisis.

The number of internally displaced persons in these regions keeps hiking ever since the crisis sparked off in 2016; schools are near total closure. Meanwhile, private and public properties are experiencing massive destructions every day, the parliamentary group leader affirmed.

In the face of all these, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, spoke of government’s apparent readiness to seek an end to the crisis in the North West and South west regions, they said.

It is in this vein that the SDF which stands to defend and protect the interests of the Cameroonian people, calls for a total ceasefire by all parties involved in the crisis.

Speaking to the media, the SDF MPs requested “the release of all those in detention and grant of amnesty to those in Cameroon and in the Diaspora who are affected and involved in this crisis.”

The SDF envisaged “compensation to all the victims of the crisis after a broad- based evaluation of lives and property destroyed and also set up a deadline for the execution of this resolution.”

Still going by the resolutions arrived at, elections should be organised only after the crisis in the North West and South west has been resolved, the parliamentarians concluded.
