At Bafoussam CPDM mega rally: West Region vomits Maurice Kamto!

The leader of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement, MRC, Prof Maurice Kamto, who is currently incarcerated at the Yaoundé Kondengui prison, has been vomited by the West region.

This was over the weekend in Bafoussam during a mega CPDM rally.

The supporters of the CPDM also pledged their unflinching support to the Head of State, and dissociated themselves from the recent activities of the Brigade Anti-Sardinard – BAS, who staged a violent protest against Paul Biya in Geneva, Switzerland in June.

Urging the population of the region to avoid hate speech and those abroad to be good ambassadors, they have appealed to the international community not to interfere in the trial of MRC leader, Maurice Kamto, arrested in January for staging a banned protest.

At the end of a mega CPDM rally in Bafoussam, elite and supporters of the ruling party, issued a 20-point resolution in which they urged diplomatic representations and other development partners to refrain from any interference in judicial proceedings in Cameroon, and respect the Cameroonian judiciary, which is independent to deal with the Kamto affair.

They argued that, Maurice Kamto lost the 2018 Presidential election in his home town Baham and division, totaling a deficit of 100,000 votes in the entire region. Going by this, they said Kamto has no legal rights to contest the election results that saw Paul Biya win a 7th term.

In the resolution, read in French by Prof Justin Ndifor, and in English by Prof Mefue Miranda, they called on “the African Union, the European Union and all the international organisations to condemn attempts by the detained MRC leader to institute unconstitutional change on a legitimate and democratic regime.”

On the recent BAS protests which saw Biya cut short his Swiss trip, the West CPDM elite condemned firmly “genocidal remarks as well as hateful and stigmatising speech that undermines national cohesion and social peace.” To the BAS, they said the group is insignificant and not representative of the people and values of the West region, calling their protest “shameful and anti-Republican.”

They have reiterated their unconditional and unwavering support to Paul Biya and his policy of “Great Opportunities.”

The politico-administrative, traditional, and religious elite of the Western region were heavily mobilised for the event. Among them were the Senate President Marcel Niat Njifenji, Jean Nkuete, Secretary General of the CPDM Central Committee and Sultan Ibrahim Mbombo Njoya, the CPDM boss in the West region and official initiator of the event.

The rally was also graced by the presence of non-elite of the West region notably Joseph Le and Malachie Manaouda, cabinet ministers.
