Mayor Tanjong Martin laments the creeping Tubah Council.

The persistent Anglophone crisis on multiple counts has curbed investment gestures and efforts whose goals were for the improvement of livelihoods in the municipalities. Since the resort to jungle justice by the Ambazonian fighters began, the Tubah Council has been greatly hit.

To Mayor Tanjong Martin, the council is for the local population and its role is to supply them with roads, bridges, schools in an effort to ease human life and more still to ascertain the establishment of birth as well as death certificates and other valid documents. "But we are now at a 2 sided sword with government and Amba forces at loggerheads, none being able to determine the course to take", he said.

"We were chased out of the council premises by presumed separatists and without contesting the decision I sent council workers 2 months later to clean the environment but they were restrained. Few months later, they broke into the council premises looting property and breaking down council possessions, keeping me hands folded and back to the wall with the question: what should we do and where are we going to?”.

“I find my populaton coming to Bamenda 1, 2 and 3 councils to establish birth and death certificates which over time has been a funds harvest medium for the council which to me doesn’t speak well", he added.

On his message to the government, Mayor Martin says it’s that of dialogue.

"The children have cried let their father talk", he said.

On the constant kidnap of students from and around the university village, he further said: “This doesn’t mean the council property shouldn’t be protected. All these come as a result of the insecurity which has persisted for sometime now.”

To the council workers who are being paid salaries for a no job done, Mayor Tanjong Martin says:"It’s left for them to search their minds and see if what they are paid for justifies their services.”

It should be recalled that the Tubah council harbours the lone university for the North west region and has over the years influenced the growing nature of the economy of the area owing to its state-run Higher Teacher Training College (HTTC) and the Higher Technical Teacher Training College (HTTTC) which has seen an influx of students from the French-speaking regions in a grasp for knowledge in teaching and material dissemination. Before now the Tubah Council had been part of an award winning council for the performance basket of the PNDP owing to its great strides in reconstruction and development. To all these the big question is: When shall the authorities that be invest in a peace building and national reconstruction campaign to end the upheavals?
