New Buea First Deputy Mayor elected.
The Buea Council in Fako Division now has Dr. Lyonga John Efande as the first Deputy Mayor. He was voted into that position by his peers, Councillors, on Wednesday July 17 2019 during the Buea Council First Ordinary session for 2019. He replaced Emmanuel Motomby Mbome.
Councilor Lifange Williams, for his part, was brought on board as the fourth deputy Mayor clocking the number of deputy mayors back to four at the Buea Council. As to why has Motomby Mbome been replaced as first Deputy Mayor, the Municipal Landlord of the Buea Council, Ekema Patrick Esunge, explained: “Administration is continuous. He was voted by the people (councillors) to represent them at the executive arm of the council. If he has withdrawn, it is appropriate that the same councillors place another person who can perform such right,” he stated.
The first Ordinary session of Buea Council was dedicated for the examination and adoption of the Administrative, Management and Stores Management Accounts for 2018 financial year. The administrative account for 2018 stood at FCFA 1 577 181 330, indicating an excess of revenue over expenditure to the tune of FCFA 165 740 169, showing a 69.84% realisation rate.
The Mayor Ekema Patrick who chaired the session under the auspices of the First Assistant Senior Divisional Officer for Fako Division, Bejedi Otto II, regretted that the activities of the council have been hampered in 2018 by the sociopolitical crisis that has overwhelmed the North West and South West Regions.
In the face of the crisis, the Buea Council successfully constructed two classrooms in Government Primary School Muea, constructed solar energy- powered pastoral boreholes in Ndongo – Wokoko. The stretches of roads between Bokwai – Bokova, Tole Wonganjo among others were built. Scholarship to 60 youths, donation of didactic material, among others, marked 2018. The Buea Council used the council session to announce holiday jobs, scholarships scheme and a preparation package for pupils and students for back- to-school come September 2 2019.
