Lawyer defending Anglophone separatists beaten, dumped behind Gendarmerie Hilux in Yaounde.
A top Anglophone Lawyer and a member of the regular 35-man team of lawyers defending Sisiku Ayuk Tabe Julius, leader of the Anglophone separatist movement and other members of his cabinet fondly called the Nera 10 detained in Yaounde, has been beaten to coma, The Horizon learnt.
Barrister Amungwa Tanyi was beaten in Biyem Amssi, Yaounde, late Saturday July 27, 2019, eyewitnesses. His crime was that the gendarmes identified him as hailing from one of Cameroon’s English-speaking regions.
Other sources confirmed he was seriously beaten, adding that he went unconscious, and was dumped into the trunk of a Gendarmerie Hilux. Barrister Amungwa is the head of the Communication team of the Anglophone Seperatist leaders. He organizes all the press conferences in connection with the Ayuk Tabe and co case.
Reports say he was beaten with such high levels of indignity.
Lawyers say this action of the government has grave implications on an upcoming court session this Monday July 29, 2019. Many others say he was targeted by government in order to undermine the session.
