Socio-political crisis retards development in Kumba.
The Government Delegate to the Kumba City Council, Victor Nkelle Ngoh, has noted that the ongoing socio-political crisis retarded the smooth collection of internal revenue as most of the field workers were faced with daily menace of life especially in the Fiango market.
The Government Delegate made the statement during the First Ordinary Council Session that was aimed at examining the Administrative, Management and Stores Accounts of the KCC, recently. The session took place at the Council Chambers. Victor Nkelleb Ngoh noted the ongoing crisis is not only a major impediment towards the collection of local revenue but also a great hurdle in the development of the Kumba Municipality.
He disclosed that in terms of development, the ongoing crisis has led to the suspension of important projects including; the construction of stores at the Buea Road motor park, the World Bank project for the tarring of Pullentin and Kosala roads, the African Development Bank Project and the public investment project for the tarring of the road from the CPDM Party House to the SDO’s residence.
Presenting the account, the Delegate said, of the sum of FCFA 1.866.800.000 budgeted in 2018, FCFA 1.419.909.219 was collected giving 76.05% realization, while the sum of FCFA 1.160.439.405 was spent on investment constituting 62.16% budget realization with excess revenue over expenditure of FCFA 259.369.814.
The 1st Assistant SDO, for his part, told the grand councillors that the 76.05% is higher than that of last year and 62.16% quota spent on investment is higher than the 40% prescribed by the Law. He then called on the Director of Administration and Finance to ensure the replacement of all retired workers as soon as possible.
