Pilgrims leave for Mecca.
It was smile and delight on the faces of some 312 Muslim faithful who thronged the Duala International Airport for their departure for pilgrimage in Mecca via Ethiopian Airways. The second contingent is made up of pilgrims from the West, Centre and Littoral Regions. Like in the past years, the Ministry of Territorial Administration has been at the forefront to ensure that the pilgrims have a hitch-free event. This year the ministry was very much present as officials were busy at the airport to ensure that all goes well. The pilgrims were offered cash for their general upkeep and their health situation was assured upon travelling.
Pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, the holiest city for Muslims, is one of the five pillars of Islam. Thus they have to undertake the journey at least once in a life time. It is mostly carried out by adult Muslims who are physically and financially capable. While in Mecca the Muslim faithful are expected to pray for Cameroon and call on Allah to restore peace in the land. One of the pilgrims, Ibrahim Mimche, said his main prayer point would be for peace to return to Cameroon. He added that he would also pray for his family. While in Mecca, the pilgrims have to follow the instructions of the guides so as not to be missed out in any of the activities.
Hajj 2019 is just another opportunity for the Muslims in Cameroon to thank the Head of State President Paul Biya and the government for making their trip to Mecca successful. The third contingent of pilgrims departed from the Douala International Airport on Wednesday July 31 while the last will leave from the Garoua Airport on Saturday August 3, 2019.
