The Mbengwi park area in Bamenda which is usually characterised by pomp and fanfare has been a dead zone since Wednesday.
Quizzed on the lack of activity in the park, drivers told The Horizon that they had been told shun plying the road in an attempt to ground activities and further jeopardize the back-to-school campaign which is being drummed up by North West governor and Justice Rose Mbah Acha Fomundam, Minister of Supreme State Audit (CONSUPE).
The hostility of the Ambazonia fighters to the campaign for schools resumption was discernible in the raining of bullets on the armoured car transporting North West governor Adolphe Lele LAfrique and entourage to Nkambe on 29/07/2019. The lockdown declared on the Mbegwi road by Amba Boys is expected to dampen enthusiam for the back-to-school campaign being championed by several groups but recently hijacked by the administration. Transporters on the Mbe4ngwi road admit the risk is not just that of going but what becomes of those who go after the heat may have calmed."We are afraid of our lives owing to the fact that the surrounding roads are made of bushes and alleged camps", one of them confided in The Horizon.
This is not the first time Minister Rose Mbah Acha is witnessing such resistance. Her campaign in Momo for CPDM candidate Paul Biya was blocked. In the face of such resistance, only an enabling environment can help. The announced broad-based dialogue by PM Dion Ngute during his peace missions to the embattled Anglophone regions on the eve of 20 May may just be the magic wand for a return to normalcy.
