Challenged persons amongst most marginalised by Anglophone crisis – HRW.

Human Rights Watch has published a report on the deplorable condition of disabled persons trapped in the Anglophone crisis in Cameroon.

According to the latest report from the Human Right Watch, people living with disabilities in the crisis-hit Anglophone regions of the North West and South West are one of the most affected groups of people.

“People with disabilities are among the most marginalized and at-risk population in any crisis-affected country, and Cameroon is no exception,” said Emina ?erimovi?, senior disability rights researcher at Human Rights Watch.

In this light, the report notes that many of them are trapped in the crisis because of their inability to go about easily. As a result, they are left behind in situations of attacks and some of them are consequently killed, violated, assaulted or kidnapped by gunmen.

Added to this deplorable security condition, Human Rights Watch says disabled persons aren’t getting even basic needs met.

“Life for internally displaced people is difficult, and displaced people with disabilities face additional difficulties in getting assistance and meeting their basic needs such as for food, sanitation, and health care.”
