Peter Ngufor joins back-to-school campaign wagon; wants police to take over peace-keeping role from army in NW&SW.

Peter Ngufor Njontor of Farmers’ House fame is also credited for his efforts at nation building. Popularly known as Pa Ngufor, he has been vocal about the plight of Anglophones within the unitary state but thinks government has been making efforts at resolving differences that ignited the Anglophone crisis. That is why he believes that with the message of the crisis passed, there is need to begin on a new slate by allowing the children to go to school come September. But for this to happen, the army must go back to the barracks and be replaced by the police force which he thinks is more effective in investigation and closer to the people.

In an interview with The Horizon last week, Pa Ngufor also took time off to evaluate the “Concours on Success” he launched; the 2019 farming season and announced the impending take-off of his pet project, the Integrated Farmers Group.

Aware that education is a means of ascertaining a brighter future for the children who have over 3 years and counting been exposed to all forms of vices, Pa Ngufor Peter said it was time for them to go back to school because some of the grievances had been met. To him" the crisis was meant to send a message and I think it has been sent. No need trying to overstate it. It will be wrong keeping them (children of school-going age) at home. We don’t need to destroy beyond repairs before we make a point".

But for this to happen, government must creat an enabling environment. This could take the form of withdrawing the dreaded army and replacing them with the police force which is more effective in dealing with such crisis situations.

“With the police, they are more civic. They ask questions and won’t come shooting as their aim is for clarity,to better necessitate a metropolitan living and peace breeding society. As such, there is no space for missiles or other war weapons and machinery or personnel to be stationed. Let the approach change and certainly all will go well,” he stated.

The insecurity has led to the use of armoured cars by high-ranking administrative officers to embark on their back-to-school campaigns. This begs the question as to whether the children too will be provided with armoured cars to go to school too. Pa Ngufor said “armoured cars won’t change anything as many of these children have and remain very interested in securing a future for themselves.”

The influential member of the North West elite is bent on carving a niche for himself. At a time when the government elite have been rejected by the grass roots, he intends to make his impact felt.

" I am trying to see how some in the bushes can be resettled. There are underground works with administrative authorities to this effect", he disclosed.

Pa Ngufor was also concerned about the contrasting rhetoric of some members of government on the issue of the dialogue announced by President Paul Biya. While Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute announced during his 2-week sensitization, remobilisation and hope-rekindling tour to the two troubled English-speaking regions that there would be no taboo subjects during the impending dialogue, denizens were taken aback by the chicanery exhibited by Cameroon’s territorial administration minister, Paul Atanga Nji. In a statement which went viral after PM’s tour, he stated contrarily that "the head of state will not dialogue with rebels" and that the form of state would not be on the agenda.

In this conflict, Pa Ngufor gives the PM the benefit of the doubt.

"Let’s believe what the PM says. He is there. Let’s believe him. There is no doubt to what he has told us. Between the two (PM and MINAT boss respectively) one is above the other.”

The man who is said to have spent over 25 years in Yaounde admitted the Francophone way of life is quite different from that of the Anglophones.

"The Anglophone wants to be just, straightforward and apply equity in their rationale but the Francophone wants to be told all he needs to do and the root of the ongoing plight is owing to the non application of the concept of equity ".

All this, he added, is barely a way of life and we must understand their basic and fundamental concepts.

While congratulating the farmers of the region and nation who trusted and used their seeds to a commensurate agricultural yield they realised, Pa Ngufor urged them to further continue in the tilling of the soils. He added that over the years now the rains come once, that is February, and those who planted harvested."I noticed some farmers planting and I wished them good luck and to those who target both seasons, I equally will stop at nothing to wish them the best".

Owing to the desire to empower and preserve Cameroon’s foreign exchange and further necessitate employment, thereby delivering the nation from the cobwebs of graft, the integrated farmers group was launched. The age-long institution launched by one-time Prime Minister, Peter Mafany Musonge, was in a bid to provide cereals to brewery industries at reduced prices. With the inception of this vision years have come and gone with nothing said. It was during this medium at the headquarters on the Farmers House in Bamenda that news about a commencement of the Integrated Farming Group was broken. "It will interest you to know that the Integrated Farmers Group in the days ahead will kick off". It is an agro industry whose contribution in the agricultural sector will not be under-felt.

Enshrined and framed in a growing economy, Pa Ngufor further revealed "Integrated Farmers Group is an agro industry; it is not a commercial venture. As such it requires subsidies in order to survive". This aid to him will only help the proper erection and establishment of the age-long vision which he reiterated would provide the by-products and raw materials to dealers in brewery produce at a nation building rate.

Over the years many have had ideologies and certainties as well as uncertainties on an interpretation of the true meaning of success. Thanks to the "concours" launched by the Farmers House CEO, many have received enlightenment. This explains why he saluted the efforts of all those who took out time to attempt an answer to the “concours”. Pa Ngufor holds that "success is not by wealth amassing or fighting with no tangible reasons. Success is making a vast majority of the population happy.”
