Civic education: Littoral youths urged to be patriotic.

It was a huge crowd of youths that gathered at the “Salles de fête” in Akwa to take part in the launching of the campaign to promote patriotism and living together amongst youths. The ceremony presided at by the Minister of Youth Affairs, Mounouna Foutsou, also marked the end of activities of holiday makers that were employed by the Douala City Council, DCC. During the joint ceremony, presentations focused on how to instill good morals in youths as well as inculcate the spirit of patriotism.

“It is time for the youths to represent national values”, he said. He called on the youths to rise up and prove to the world that they are responsible. The campaign based on the slogans “no to hate speech”, “no to drug abuse”, “no to social ills, saw the minister urge the youths to be patriotic and also be true ambassadors of Cameroon wherever they find themselves. Paraphrasing the President of the Republic, he called on the youths of the Littoral Region to be ‘active followers’ and not ‘passive followers’. He said Cameroon needs healthy youths for its development and asked them to be vigilant, respectful as well as promote the spirit of living together. He said after the national launching of the youth citizenship and patriotic campaign, he instructed the Regional Delegates to proceed with Regional launchings in the days ahead.

While delving into the holiday job programme organized by the DCC, the government Delegate, Fritz Ntone Ntone, applauded the youths for a job well done. He said the programme was introduced to occupy the youths during holidays and help to keep Douala clean. He disclosed that, this year over 500 youths were recruited and will be paid according to their effectiveness at work. For the past one month the youths have shown a great sense of responsibility and proved to have potentials to be great leaders in the future.
