Hon.Wallang Richard: The indefatigable crusader for No School Boycott in Menchum.

Hon.Wallang Richard: The indefatigable crusader for No School Boycott in Menchum.

Almost all CPDM bigwigs from the North West region have chickened out of visiting their constituencies in the face of ultimatums from separatist fighters and their Diaspora sponsors, abductions and generalised insecurity. A few die hard political actors, however, still manage to brave it to their municipalities and the region unarmed and unguarded. Hon Richard Wallang member of Parliament for Menchum, is among one of those who have conquered fear because he is convinced in the cause of back-to-school for children of his constituency. He is believed to have gone the extra mile to convince the Ambaboys operating in Menchum Division to facilitate the safe passage of the North West Governor’s convoy to and from Wum and other areas of the division hitherto considered no-go zones. Thanks to his skills at mobilising the masses, other CPDM bigwigs found it safe to visit their division for the first time since November 30 2017.

It came as a big surprise and big relief that the 83 km journey from Bamenda, through Mankon, Bafut to Menchum territory and back was achieved without the sound of gunfire exchange between the military and separatists. The success of the North West Governor’s back-to-school tour in Menchum, observers say, was largely thanks to Hon. Wallang’s charisma and popularity.
