Crisis to receive befitting burial as Dialogue is underway, NW Governor tells Wum community during back-to-school campaign.

The school boycott that has gone for 3 years and counting shall soon be history. The year 2019 promises to be the watershed moment for an end to this civil disobedience tactic that has bred illiteracy, drug addiction, multiple pregnancies among the youth. North West governor, Lele Lafriquege has been criss-crossing the various divisions of his region of command to sell the campaign for an effective school resumption. He was in Wum last Wednesday to encourage the children come out and fight for their future by saying No to school boycott.

Addressing the population on the subject Adolphe Lele emphasized the head of state’s condemnation of all forms of boycott and insistence that all such manifestations and vandalisations on schools and other edifices only squeezes the nation dry of its financial worthiness. He insisted destruction only means taxpayers’ money will be diverted to reconstruction and military operations. Before now many had insisted the only an all-inclusive dialogue could address the plight of disgruntled Anglophones demanding a return to the 1961 federal formula. But with the PM’s peace mission in May during which he announced the holding of that dialogue, there was need to allow the children now go to school.

The governor further entreated school authorities, teachers, principals (in absentia), divisional and sub divisional heads in their respective ranks to return to their units in a bid to ascertain a future for the children.

In a bid to address the escalating poverty in the division, Adolphe Lele, flanked by the director of Civil Protection at MINAT, dished out didactic materials (all school stationery). Yap Mariatou explained that the gesture was in response to the suffering witnessed by the population. She announced that the territorial administration minister, Paul Nji Atanga, championed the move which saw the distribution of over 300 bags with exercise books, pens, pencils rulers, chalks and ledgers. The big question however remains whether the desired goals would be achieved owing to the fact that the demand was rather that dialogue should precede back-to-school and not the other way round. Only 2nd September will tell.
