Women with disabilities launch humanitarian assistance scheme in Bamenda.

Women with disabilities in Bamenda have for the first time, championed the cause for providing humanitarian assistance to their female counterparts in the crisis-ravaged North West region.
This was made possible during a workshop on August 14 in Bamenda, aimed at empowering women with disabilities with apt knowledge on gender based violence and access to public infrastructure.
The workshop was organised by the North West Association for Women with Disabilities, in partnership with a Non Governmental Organisation. During the event, some women with disabilities were given humanitarian aid, to help sustain them amidst the Anglophone crisis which has been raging on for three years running.
The humanitarian aid targets some 250 women with disabilities across the North West; 50 women have benefited so far from the largesse.
Beneficiaries at the workshop expressed satisfaction and appreciation for the association’s gesture.
The President of the North West Association for Women with Disabilities, Ndi Veronica Ngum was proud of her association’s strides, being the first group of persons with disabilities to assist their counterparts, since the start of the Anglophone crisis.
She equally called on other NGOs to often use persons with disabilities to execute projects, rather than always see them as people who only need charity.
Speaking to TWIF NEWS after the event, Musi Christina, a woman with disability, urged government forces and separatist fighters to put an end to the hostilities, and pave the way for genuine dialogue, so as to end the crisis.
She and her family are now internally displaced persons in Bamenda, after her business crumbled and her house set aflame in Esu.
The Association will give aid to women in other areas of the region in the days ahead.
