Kecha Fondom, Upkwa Village receive humanitarian aid.

War was almost feared in Wum when news broke out on the looting of Upkwa village, a Bororo, muslim and fulani settlement area created after the Lake Nyos disaster. In addition to this was the burning down of architectural and traditional edifices and a palace library (though locally handled) belonging to Naikom fondom.  It is to avert such a scenario that the North West chief administrative officer, Adolphe Lele Lafrique undertook a visit to this locality to acquaint himself on the situation and bring hope to the affected populations. With over 30 homes looted in Aghem and a few others in Upkwa, life seemed not to be the same as before.

During his stopover at Kecha Fondom ,Upkwa Village, the Governor and his entourage distributed humanitarian aid to the affected population. This put a smile on especially those who had their property looted following confrontation between the Ambaboys and the settler population.

As recounted by Saidou Ali, gunmen, presumably separatist fighters, stormed their residential area and ordered occupants of the homes out before setting the structures ablaze. The stranded father and husband of 12 holds that the separatists before looting accused them and others of being sell-outs on their hideouts and strongholds to the regular state military forces whose aggression has left high casualties. Governor Adolphe Lele therefore used the occasion to give out zinc sheets to the victims and village heads in a bid to ensure a redress of the situation.

It should be noted the right to life is fundamental with no human possessing sole prerogative to deprive others of improved living conditions. The zinc sheets, bags of rice and cartons of soap as visibly seen are said to be elements of rejuvenation against the ordeals witnessed. To Pa Francis senior notable of Naikom, the governor’s visit is a mark of excitement and satisfaction. Before now, when we come to the palace "we sit outside and pray to the heavenly GOD to help us so we can be reinstated and with the governor’s visit we are sure all will go well".

He further insisted the structures have existed far way over 42 years, and past Fons all contributed to the structures that held symbolic importance to the Fondom.

Reports on important structures schools, offices, palaces, homes have continuously been reduced with the unfolding of the Anglophone crisis. Both separatists and military officials have been blamed.
