Crusade against school boycott: Gov’t scores ‘unmerited’ points.
War of attrition by factions of the Ambazonia government provokes rude awakening in NW & SW as lockdown crumbles on day 2 and 3.
The war of attrition engaged into by two factions of the Ambazonia government seems to be giving the Cameroonian government an upper hand in its campaign for schools resumption at all costs.
Residents of major towns in the North West and South West regions for the last two days conquered fear and went about their normal activities in defiance of an 18-day lockdown imposed by the Samuel Sakao-led faction of the Ambazonia Interim Government beginning 26 August.
The defiance of the lockdown imposition was made inevitable by the backing by the Ayuk Tabe faction of a less stressful lockdown timetable declared by The Ground Zero Defence Council.
The Ground Zero Defence Council had set commencement date for 2nd September, while the Samuel Sako-led IG had imposed 26th August as start date.
In a recent communique, the Vice President under Sisiku’s IG, Dabney Yerima, described the three-week lockdown imposed by the Sako-led IG as “unnecessary,” and urged the population not to respect such calls.
Observers said it was to clear the confusion created in the minds of the suffering civilians, that the Sisiku-led IG was constrained to give its backing to the shutdown of the territory from September 2-6 and 9-13 announced by the Ground Zero Defence Council.
A belated audio message by the Sako-led IG aired by Chris Anu to scare Anglophones on Ground Zero about the presence of troops to shoot them on sight was not heeded. Observers say the contradictory rhetoric from both camps may lead to the crumbling of the school boycott campaign which is the cornerstone of the separatist revolution. A babble of dissenting voices has since emerged calling for a change of strategy. The government of Cameroon would have then scored ‘unmerited’ points in its crusade against school boycott without creating the enabling environment clamoured for. It is not yet the case. Only Monday, 2 September, date of effective school re-opening, will tell if the Biya regime has won the demagogy and propaganda war against the separatists without firing a shot.
