President Biya extends largesse to Meme Division.

The President of the Republic H.E President Paul Biya has extended support to the children of Meme Division.

The President, through the head of the C.P.D.M permanent delegation to Meme Division, Chief Benjamin Itoe, handed didactic materials to children of Meme on Friday August 30th 2019 at the Kumba City Council hall during the launching of the 2019/2020 academic year in Meme Division.

Handing over the gifts to the Children who came out massively, Chief Justice Itoe noted that the gifts from the Head of State are to assist parents allow their children go back to school. He said the gifts are not meant only for C.P.D.M children but for all the children in the Division who are going to school. The gifts are didactic materials and a sum of FCFA 4000 to each child for this academic year.

He urged the Amba boys to allow children go back to school as dialogue is on the way.

Speaking earlier in his welcome address, the Government Delegate to the Kumba City Council, Ngoh Nkelle Victor, noted that education is key. He said because of the crisis people have relocated to other places at very high cost. Children have suffered rape, torture; some teachers have lost their lives and livelihood, lamented the Government Delegate. He said Enough is Enough for children's education to be sacrificed.

Ngoh Nkelle urged parents to send their children to school as all necessary measures have been put in place. The City Boss noted that this is another opportunity for the Amba boys to lay down their weapons and come back to town.

According to Senator Otte Andrew, member of the C.P.D.M delegation to Meme Division, book is fine, book never fails, book is something that stays in you. He said like other African countries, through education they have emancipated themselves and most development can only come through education.

Senator Otte observed that no matter the problems we should encourage children to go to school.

The Senator disclosed that the package made up of pens, pencils, books, math sets for secondary school children; a bag and FCFA 4000 each to help the parents buy more books for primary school pupils. He noted that it is the widow's mite from the Head of State to all the Divisions in the North West and South West Regions because of the social unrest in the two regions.

The CPDM bigwig said that it is also a way to encourage parents and teachers to start up the school year no matter the odds. He said in the middle of the academic year they can still come back to encourage those going to school effectively.

Senator Otte said the Divisional Officer of the five Sub Divisions would hand the gifts since they are on the ground and know those who are actually going to school.

For her part, Dr Dores Mekunda, lecturer at the University of Buea, urged parents to send their children to school, noting that despite the insecurity that looms around Meme Division, they are hopeful that things are getting better. She said the turnout of population of the children was an indication that the children long to go back to school.

Launching the school year, the Senior Divisional Officer for Meme represented by the 1st Assistant, Ngime Joseph, noted that despite the socio-political crisis that has affected the Division, education of our children should not be sacrificed. He said it was because the Head of State was preoccupied with education that he decided to support and encourage effective back to school come Monday September 2nd 2019.

The ADO called on parents and teachers to allow children go to school as serious depositions had been put in place for safety. Five children from each Sub Division were handed the symbolic gifts. The rest will be handed at the divisional levels.
