Douala welcomes more IDPS.
The ongoing Anglophone crisis is taking another twist and the people of the Littoral region continue to harbour more Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) fleeing from the crisis.
The number of people trickling in from the North West and South West region is on a steady increase.
Most people are fleeing from the region in order not to be trapped by the crisis situation. Most travel agencies are making brisk business out of the situation. While others show pity on the suffering people by not increasing their prices, others are exploiting the situation by adding the transport fare.
While at some agencies on Monday morning, it was a crowded atmosphere with fleeing population. At the park in Bonaberi, some passengers disclosed that they paid CFA 3000 from Mile 17 Buea to Douala, some said they paid CFA 10.000 from Bamenda.
With this influx, the population in Douala is beginning to adapt to the new lifestyle by housing some of the IDPs. Mbong Challot is a native from the North West region. She said before now she had about 5 people in her house but as of Monday 26 August 2019, seven more relatives came in. She said it had not been easy feeding them but she was happy that they were all alive.
Agbor Eno travelled from Mamfe to start school in Douala. He said his mother asked him to leave so as not to be trapped by the lock-down. He was still at the park waiting for a relative to pick him up. He said he was happy to be in Douala so as to attend school as he has not been able to go to school for the past three years.
