Oil and Gas Exploration: Russian technology solicited.
Some scientists from Institute of Innovative Engineering Technologies of the RUDN University in Russia are currently in Cameroon to present not only new technologies in oil and gas production but also present the courses offered by the university.
Speaking to the business community in a ceremony at GICAM last Thursday, Anatoly Ryzhkov, the scientist behind the latest technology, said Cameroon was chosen because Cameroon is like Africa in miniature with a great potential of oil production. He therefore said they were in Cameroon to explore ways of training personnel and establish partnerships with local companies to improve on exploration and production. He said the Russian technology has proven its mettle over the World especially Asia and America.
Presenting the RUDN University, Evgeny Shcsnyak said it was created some 60 years ago and named the People’s Friendship University, in honour of Patrice Lumumba. Of the about 70000 students in the university, there are 10.000 students from over 170 countries in the world. He said this is the second time they are visiting Cameroon and have been conducting seminars on oil and gas production in Cameroon in view of exporting innovative technologies to Africa and training of specialists. He said Cameroonians have been studying in RUDN University since its inception.
Presenting the situation of oil and gas production in Cameroon and the sub region, Jerome Minlend, an oil gas expert from CAC international, said oil is being produced in Cameroon since the 1950s. He said the rudimentary technology of production has grown to be sophisticated as the oil tables are deeper over the years and less accessible warranting an improvement in the exploration and production technology. It is worthy to mention that the Russian experts are in Cameroon on the invitation of Multi Services and Industrial Material-MSMI, the local representative of RUDN University Institute of Petroleum Science and Management-IUSPM. During the visit, the Russian delegation also held talks with the students and officials of the Douala University as well as the business community in view of identifying technologies that can be imported from Russia concerning not only gas and oil exploration and exploitation but also the mining sector.
